Health and Healthcare

Paying for healthcare is basically a function of insurance. The more people who pay in, the larger the pool from which to cover those in need. Organizing an alliance of insurance companies that understand healthcare, the Democrat encourages the formation of very large pools. Like the lottery, many more people each pay a smaller amount to contribute to the benefits that they or their families might someday need. Participation need not be mandatory, but may be voluntary.

Education

Because of the Democrat's investment of time and money, America's schools are no longer old and run down, creaking from every brick and board, leaking heat and overcrowded. They are so good, America's schools are the pride of every community, open day and night year round. These schools are the envy of the world. They have the finest facilities and equipment for studying and athletics, and continue to offer courses for adults, particularly parents.

America's electorate is literate and well informed. America's citizens are confident and successful. They like school. They have learned to love learning.

The Environment

Besides fossil fuels, our little planet paradise has two other finite resources: air and water. We are wasting them. People act as if keeping our house clean is too big a job, or too difficult. Our small, daily contaminations do not amount to much. The big pollution problem is somebody else's problem. The government will take care of it. No matter how bad it gets today, we can clean it up tomorrow. Somebody will.

The Democrat will.

The Democrat will not wait until tomorrow, but will start today. Air and water are too precious.

Energy

Businesses exploiting fossil fuels have yielded magnificent fortunes. From natural resources to refined energy sources, these fuels make up a substantial part of the world economy. Companies and investors who profit from these fuels have done well. They can be expected to resist change.

Change is coming.

The Economics of Malaise

The trickle-down economics of malaise applies to all organizations, not just businesses. It includes political organs also. The performance of a school might be the reflection of its principal or school board. Towns, states, even nations have personalities. The personality is an image. The image is the reality. The image derives from the faces and voices at the top.

Are they smart?

The Democrat is smart.

Economics and The Economy

Because of the Democrat's straight-shooting reliability, the whole world is comfortable doing business the American way. People like doing business with honest Americans. Friendly and smart, Americans provide the best quality at a fair price.

Religion

For political decision making, the Democrat is not tied to the requirements of any sectarian religion. Pragmatic and reasonable, the Democrat is above all rational.

Monday, November 01, 2004

World Policy

The Democrat is not imperialist. There are no aspirations for empires, dynasties or conquest. The Democrat desires peace and prosperity for all citizens of the world.

Liberal or Conservative

The Democrat's charm is subverted and mocked. Allies betray. The Democrat transcends because fundamental principles serve as a beacon and a keel. As a die-hard optimist and a silver-lining specialist, the Democrat lands like a cat and smiles with an eye on the long view.

Democracy

Government in America often looks a bit like oligarchy. It is very expensive to get elected. Reaching so many voters with the available media takes a long time and costs a lot of money. Opponents of the Democrat often have a great deal of time and money available. They represent rich and powerful interests who want to stay that way. Powerful and wealthy people would like to preserve or enhance their every advantage.

Vision

Looking into the crystal ball with an eye on Murphy's Law, the Democrat anticipates several moves in advance, as if playing chess. Thinking it through, the Democrat calculates the consequences of actions.

The Fixer

The gap between the legal and the practical is almost as wide as the gulf between human nature and common sense. The Democrat applies common sense to problems and comes up with practical solutions.

Self Discipline

Power is an aphrodisiac. When the Democrat is successful, people are drawn in like moths to the flame. They want to get into the orbit of the star, as close as possible.

Fun

The Democrat's ready smile is infectious and contagious.

Ever Vigilant

The Democrat's opponents are powerful, intelligent and ruthless. To get or to keep power and wealth, they resort to tactics that are covert, deceptive and often illegal.

Fundamental Values

The Democrat is adventurous

kind and considerate

fierce and fearless

spiritual.

The Military

The Democrat is a champion of American military power that knows no equal in the world. Until the day America has no enemies, the American military will remain supreme.

The Democrat and The Gun

The Democrat is an advocate of the Bill of Rights, including the Second Amendment. Every law-abiding citizen has the right to keep and bear arms. The provision for an organized militia is not a prerequisite for the fundamental right. The citizens may need to form militia to fight foreign enemies, or to fight tyranny. When the time comes, the citizens will be armed.

Health and Healthcare

Prevention is better than cure. The Democrat knows that good health is a prerequisite to happiness. Over time, the Democrat has improved safety in the workplace, in transportation, in products, and in the environment. There is more to do.

Sunday, October 31, 2004

Education

How to stay healthy is not just eating right, good exercise, safe sex, and saying no to drugs. Self-awareness and self-respect, understanding body and mind, these are just as important as reading, writing, and 'rithmetic. Staying healthy is intertwined with making money and getting along with others.

Education

The United States Constitution does not provide for the right to an education. The disparity between righ and poor school districts does not violate the right to equal protection under federal law.

The Environment

The Democrat is concerned about the environment, and is supportive of people who devote their lives and careers to protection of the natural world. They may be the last line of defense against the onslaught of humans. Our small planet is too fragile to ignore. Humans need to be much more careful, and watch what they are doing.

Energy

The Democrat is not tied to fossil fuels. Coal, oil, gas, and uranium served well for more than one hundred years. The energy they have produced has brought us from the industrial age through the information age. We have come a long way, and we have learned a lot.

The Economics of Malaise

Economic success is part psychology. Much of it is based on a sense of confidence. Confidence is related to comfort and security. Un-security leads to discomfort and a loss of confidence. This is the malaise, and it affects the economy.

Economics and The Economy

The Democrat is a fiscal conservative who believes in free markets. The economy of the USA is interdependent with the world economy. Free markets in the world economy depend on negotiated treaties until all trade barriers are removed, as they have been within the fifty United States.

Resolute

The Democrat is tough
strong
resolute
persistent
and tenacious.

Religion

With faith in the goodness of God, the Democrat believes in the ability of humans to reason. Understanding that spirituality is a fundamental part of human nature, the Democrat is tolerant of all religions, including those that sometimes foster fundamentalist fanaticism or superstition.

Muslims and Christians and Jews

Christianity has been around for about 2000 years, Judaism longer than that. Islam has been around for about 1400 years. For the most part, these three religions have much in common. The people who practice these religions are good and hard working. They want what is best for their families and their communities.

And yet they fight.

Building Bridges

The Democrat is known for building bridges and breaking down walls. An accomplished mediator, the Democrat is good at getting parties to the table for negotiations. Where many conflicts are the result of misunderstanding and poor communications, the Democrat opens dialogue and facilitates discussion.

Saturday, October 30, 2004

World Policy

Foreign policy is an old-fashioned concept. It dates back hundreds of years. Anything that is not domestic is foreign. Some people view foreign as exotic, distant and forbidding.

The Democrat does not view the USA as an isolated place. America is a world leader, and is itself a citizen of the world. Thus, the Democrat has a World Policy.

Liberal or Conservative

The Democrat is not afraid. With wit and wisdom, good manners and smart diplomacy, the Democrat's creative alliances carry the message in such a way as not to offend. At every turn, the Democrat's ideas are challenged or opposed. The Democrat is not discouraged by personal attacks; these are expected.

Democracy

An oligarchy is a government run by the rich. An aristocracy is a government run by privileged families, such as kings and princes. Democracy is much different than aristocracy. There is no divine right of kings in America.

The Status Quo

The Democrat is not afraid of new ideas,
not afraid to challenge the status quo.
This is not radical, not left of center.
The Democrat is a straight shooter,
right down the middle.

Vision

The Democrat is a futurist
a visionary
an optimist
an entrepreneur
a forward thinker
a dreamer.

Everyone

Everyone should be a Democrat.

Everyone is.

Prologue

We the People lost our way.
So busy, all the time, we got caught up in an avalanche of entertainment that arose from a storm of shallow celebrity and cheap media.
We forgot what we were supposed to be doing.

Let's stop a minute.
We need some quiet time to think. It will take but a moment to reorganize. Instead of chasing our tails around the mulberry bush, we can quickly pull over and look at the map.

We will never get there if we don't know where we are going.

Friday, October 29, 2004

Liberal or Conservative

Throughout history, conservative reaction has killed or intimidated free thinkers and change agents and their new ideas:
Socrates Galileo Copernicus
Joan of Arc Leonardo da Vinci
Abraham Lincoln Martin Luther King
Jesus Christ, also known as Jesus of Nazareth.

Education

How to get along with others is not a lesson that stops at elementary school, but continues to be studied through every grade in a variety of ways. The concept is not that difficult, after all. Empathy and compassion are woven into the entire curriculum. People communicating effectively are much more productive on all levels.

Liberal or Conservative

Where the Democrat is much more comfortable with change, and is often an agent or proponent of change, the Democrat can march right into serious trouble with conservative people. They are opponents inherently, and their power can be overwhelming. The Democrat should never underestimate the power of these opponents.

Education

Besides how to look things up, the Democrat suggests three other "how-to's" to inform the fundamental foundations of curriculum designers:

  • How to get along with others;
  • How to stay healthy;
  • How to make money.

These three are interchangeable in priority. Like the legs of a three-legged stool, the three are of equal importance. These educational pillars serve every individual from cradle to grave. The results benefit communities and nations.

Conservative people like leadership, but they do not like to be told how to think. What they often think is that things are just fine the way they are. In the process, Americans and their allies are dealing with many different cultures, sometimes hostile to the concept of the rule of law. Like missionaries, these allies are patient and brave. Given the fierce determination of conservative people to hang onto The Way Things Are, or The Right Way of Doing Things, the Democrat is careful to work with them, and to take measured steps.   • Improving health and education;

Democracy

The Democrat might be rich, might come from a wealthy family or business. The Democrat can just as easily come from much more humble beginnings. American democracy allows anyone to rise to the highest achievement on the basis of merit. Luck, pluck and lots of hard work allow the Democrat to succeed at anything. Voters are drawn to the Democrat and contribute to the campaign with both time and money.

The Donkey and The Horse

"Mule, donkey, jackass, they're all the same if you ask me," said John. "Why didn't the Democrats get a good animal - like a horse? They should have got a horse for their symbol."

"I love horses," said Jeannie. "Can we get a horse?"

"No, we can't get a stupid horse," said Jim, "for the hundredth time."

"Knock it off, Jim," said Dad, "but I think you're onto something there, John - about the horse. That's an interesting idea."

Education

Various proposals have suggested ways to close the gap between rich and poor school districts. Methods to equalize budgets run into political trouble. The money for a poorer district must come from a richer district. People from any school district are usually opposed to having their money spent helping someone else's children.

The trickle-down economics of malaise applies to all organizations, not just businesses. It includes political organs also. The image derives from the faces and voices at the top.

Sickness and injury are expensive, and they impair the pursuit of happiness.

Everyone knows that good diet and exercise are fundamental for good health, but many people do not adopt these habits.  They do not have time.  They might not have the training.  Or, they are not interested.

The Democrat believes these deficiencies are in the mind.  More training is needed.  This starts at a young age, pre-school.  Although solid training for good health habits can be made part of the school curriculum, that training is weak and ultimately must fail without the support of parents.

Check out Andrew Jackson (1767-1845), seventh President of the United States. Sometimes called the father of the modern Democratic Party, "Old Hickory" was the first Democrat to be depicted as a jackass.

The Fixer

The gap between the legal and the practical is almost as wide as the gap between human nature and common sense. The Democrat applies common sense to problems and comes up with practical solutions.

Ever Vigilant

Conservative media, military, religious, and corporate forces align to defeat the Democrat. This is true even when, or perhaps especially if, the Democrat is successful. Without acknowledging the Democrat's accomplishments, these forces attack on every front, if only to take the Democrat's place.

Fundamental Values

The Bible, the Ten Commandments, the Koran, the Books of Tao and Confucius, and Buddhist and Hindu teachings, and many others, are all worthwhile guides for human spirituality and fundamental values. But they are not accepted universally. Fundamentalist sectarian believers often despise the teachings of heathens and infidels.

. . . [T]he Democrat harbors no illusions about the dangerous enemies of the USA. Warlords and international criminals around the world would like to defeat the American way of life. They lust for power and influence. They have no qualms about committing atrocities to achieve their goals.

Human physiology is complex and mysterious. Medical science is still in its infancy. Like pioneers on the frontier, medical personnel are constantly searching for knowledge and understanding. The Democrat encourages this search. Efficiency helps lower costs.

Education

Education in America is a political and often emotional subject. There is no possession more precious to any family than its children. Children are all different, with individual needs and abilities. The return on investment in their education does not usually show itself until long after the money is spent.

Americans are prone to overindulgence. They have wasteful habits based on years of pampering by those who profit from selling indulgence. This is not a good example for the rest of the world.

Every organization is a reflection of top management. If the people at the top operate from honest, positive values and principles with idea-driven optimism, the organization usually prospers. At least the people in the organization like working there.

Economics and The Economy

The Democrat knows that one day the world will have a single currency. One language will be the primary language of worldwide commerce. The Democrat knows that what goes around comes around. As a result, the Democrat's deal is a fair deal. It is an honest deal, not arrogant, imposing or misleading.

Liberal or Conservative

American freedoms are still new ideas in many parts of the world, still opposed vigorously by conservative forces. These forces are sometimes religious, sometimes military, sometimes entrenched political or commercial institutions. The same forces exist in America. These forces are often strongly opposed to new ideas and to the liberal-thinking Democrat.

Democracy

An oligarchy is a government run by the rich. An aristocracy is a government run by privileged families, such as kings and princes. Democracy is much different than aristocracy. There is no divine right of kings in America.

When the time comes, the citizens will be armed.

World Policy - Page 19

Foreign policy is an old-fashioned concept. It dates back hundreds of years. Anything that is not domestic is foreign. Some people view foreign as exotic, distant and forbidding.

The Democrat does not view USA as an isolated place. America is a world leader, and is itself a citizen of the world. Thus, the Democrat has a World Policy.

Liberal or Conservative - Page 10

Generally, the Democrat is a liberal thinker, open to new ideas. Democracy itself is a new idea that was opposed vigorously by conservative people on both sides of the Atlantic.

America is a bubbling cauldron of new ideas. Thinking, writing and speaking freely, American society represents a dramatic step forward in human evolution. Seen as a shining beacon of light, Lady Liberty does not persuade by force of might but by force of right.

The Democrat represents this light and the right of all people to live in liberty and freedom.

The Democrat is not swayed by the influence of wealth, but remains independent. That is democracy.
